Location: Haddonfield, NJ
Renovations: James Hardie Siding, Trim & Capping, Gutter Updates, Front Door Replacement

This Haddonfield homeowner wanted to replace aging cedar siding with a long-lasting exterior and refresh every façade detail. The project included new siding, soffits, rakes, window and door capping, shutters, selective gutter updates, and improvements to the detached garage and shed. The goal was a unified exterior that complemented the home’s Dutch Colonial character and reduced long-term maintenance.
Why the Homeowner Chose Porter Family Exteriors
This project came through a referral, which spoke to the trust we’ve built locally. The client valued our reputation for precise James Hardie installations and wanted a team with proven expertise.
Exterior Renovation Services Provided
During the consultation, our team walked the property with the homeowner to understand his priorities and create a plan that honored the home’s architecture.
The homeowner was already interested in James Hardie siding. We provided a curated selection of color samples and recommended Hardie trim upgrades around the front door and windows for a cohesive look. After evaluating the home, the client moved forward with the full Hardie system installation.

A Collaborative Scope of Work
Determining the full scope of this project became a collaborative effort, with clear communication at every step. Together, we finalized the following scope of work:
- Hardie 8 1/4″ lap siding for the home and detached garage in Iron Gray ColorPlus
- White Hardie corners and color-matched blocks
- New soffits and capping for fascia, rakes, eaves, and the front entry arch
- Capping for all windows and doors after removing existing crown molding
- New front entry door trimmed with Hardie, finished in white
- Front 6k gutter with downspout, plus a rear downspout for the garage
- Hardie trim around the garage door and removal/coverage of the side entry door
- Capping two garage windows and painting the foundation to match Iron Gray
- Weatherstripping for the garage trim
- Removal of shutters while preserving all hardware on site per homeowner request
The homeowner also considered updating the shed, which we incorporated as an optional future phase.

Challenges and How They Were Resolved
Weather created the main challenge. Persistent rain caused brief delays, and we kept the homeowner updated as timelines shifted. When the custom garage door arrived later than expected, we adjusted our schedule to stay on track while maintaining workmanship standards.
