Location: Villanova, PA
Renovations: GAF Asphalt Roofing; James Hardie Siding
This contemporary suburban home in Villanova had already undergone partial exterior updates with Porter Family Exteriors, and the homeowner wanted to complete the remaining sections to match. The next phase included finishing the right and rear sides of the home with James Hardie siding and replacing the existing roof with GAF Pewter Gray shingles.
Why the Homeowner Chose Porter Family Exteriors Again
This project came from a repeat customer who had previously worked with our team and was pleased with the results. Their prior experience with our craftsmanship and communication led them to trust us again for this next phase of their renovation.
Designing with Consistency in Mind

During the consultation, we conducted a detailed walkthrough of the remaining sections, focusing on matching the new work with the previously completed areas. Because the right and rear elevations had existing window trim, unlike the others, we recommended removing and replacing that trim with Hardie trim to maintain a consistent look and quality throughout.
We also reviewed the larger square footage of this portion of the home and discussed how it would affect the project’s timeline and budget, ensuring the homeowner had a clear plan before work began.
Our Roofing and Siding Installation Process

For this phase of work, we installed:
- GAF Pewter Gray shingles
- Musket Brown drip edge
- 1 roof layer
- Roof slopes of 5/12 and 10/12
- Step flashing around the chimney, tied in with the new Hardie siding to ensure a watertight seal
This installation combined performance and precision, protecting the home while maintaining the contemporary aesthetic established in earlier stages of the project.
Working Safely Through Summer Weather
Extreme heat and summer storms required postponing the project start date to ensure safe conditions. Once work began, the tear-off progressed smoothly except for one section at the back of the house where we encountered a 3-inch foam layer. To guarantee proper fastening, the crew hand-nailed all materials in that area for a secure installation.
Results That Met Every Expectation
The homeowner was very pleased with the final result. They appreciated our consistent communication during weather delays and noted that the crew was respectful, maintained a clean site, and minimized disruption to their daily routine. The new roofing and siding matched their design goals, and they felt confident the project provided excellent value for the quality of work delivered.
