Location: Haddonfield, NJ
Renovations: James Hardie Siding, Windows, Trim, Gutters, Doors, A-Frame Portico, Metal Roof Accents

Built in 1920, this Tudor-style cottage carried historic charm but needed a functional and aesthetic upgrade. The homeowner wanted to replace the aging siding with James Hardie materials and update the original windows to improve performance and curb appeal.
Choosing the Right Team for a Historic Home
The homeowner had heard strong feedback about our work, particularly our James Hardie expertise, and trusted us to execute their vision correctly.
Consultation Insights and Architectural Planning
This project was a strong collaboration between our team and the homeowner. They arrived with a clear direction, and we refined the design with recommendations to modernize the exterior while respecting the home’s architecture. We paired James Hardie Arctic White lap siding with black accents and redesigned the front A-frame portico for a more substantial entry.
Key design decisions included converting a triple family room window to a twin, squaring off two octagon windows, and installing three evenly spaced windows in the office. Updated trim, capping, and soffit details were selected to create a cohesive, elevated look.

Materials, Upgrades, and Installation
After inspecting the windows and exterior, the homeowner moved forward with a full renovation that included:
- Hardie Arctic White lap siding
- Hardie shake on the front gable with a black freeze board
- Window reframing and conversions, including new office windows
- Black Hardie trim and capping on windows, rakes, and eaves
- White soffit where needed
- New black 5k gutters, downspouts, and gutter guards
- Replacement of three homeowner-provided doors
- A redesigned, expanded A-frame portico
- Metal roof accents
This system provided durability, weather resistance, and a clean architectural finish.

How Our Team Navigated Project Obstacles
Some existing windows were inserts, so we removed full frames, packed openings, and installed new construction units. Upstairs, the new twin window required additional interior trim, which we completed to fit the space. We also reset the kitchen window due to structural shifting and visible nail pops.
Rain caused a brief start delay, but we kept the homeowner updated. When they requested a larger portico, we redesigned it to meet their goals, extending the structure and wrapping the posts and beam in AZEK for durability. AZEK bead board, vinyl soffit, and aluminum capping tied the new features into the home’s updated exterior.
Completed Renovation and Homeowner Feedback
The finished exterior brought renewed character and balance to this Tudor cottage. The homeowner praised the professionalism, communication, and craftsmanship throughout the project and felt the final result matched their vision exactly.
