Location: Princeton, NJ
Renovations: GAF Roof Replacement, Gutters Replacement, Skylights
When a Princeton homeowner reached out to Porter Family Exteriors, she wasn’t just looking for protection from the elements—she had a vision. Her 1980s contemporary home needed solutions that would improve curb appeal, elevate comfort, and stand the test of time.
Trusted Craftsmanship and Clear Communication Made Porter the Right Choice

After researching multiple companies, the homeowner chose Porter Family Exteriors for one main reason: trust. She wanted an exterior remodeling contractor who would care about her home as much as she did.Â
From the start, our team—and especially project lead Joe S.—took time to understand her vision, explain options, and never rushed a decision. That commitment made all the difference.
Choosing the Right Roof and Gutter Colors for a Timeless Exterior

From the very first meeting, this project was a partnership. The homeowner came prepared with ideas and expectations, and we came prepared to listen, guide, and deliver. We started with a walk-through of the home’s existing roof and gutter system to assess both function and aesthetics. With goals of long-term durability and modern style in mind, we explored samples together—comparing colors and materials in natural light to ensure every choice would complement the home’s exterior.
The final selections? GAF HDZ shingles in a timeless Charcoal, paired with Terra Bronze gutters, drip edge, downspouts, and custom coil work. To tie it all together, black pipe collars added clean contrast, and smart vents were installed above the Velux skylights to improve airflow.
Interior Comfort Meets Modern Convenience

As the new roof took shape, the homeowner noticed a new issue: more sunlight—and heat—was streaming in through the skylights. Wanting to keep the bright, airy feel without the extra warmth, she asked about solutions. That’s when we introduced Velux solar-powered blinds, custom-fitted to all three skylights (each 31 ¼” x 39 ½”). These motorized blinds delivered exactly what she needed—better temperature control without blocking natural light.
Adapting to Delays Without Compromising Quality
Like any project, this one came with a few hurdles: a rescheduled start date, delayed gutter size confirmation, and even a dumpster shortage due to high local demand. But each time, we kept communication clear and stayed flexible to keep things moving forward. When the homeowner asked that the project not be marked complete until the gutters were installed and fully functional, we agreed wholeheartedly—attention to detail is part of our promise.
Style, Comfort, and Long-Term Value with the Best Exterior Renovations
This project stands out for how seamlessly it blended form and function. The new roof and gutters gave the home a refreshed, cohesive look. The skylight upgrades added an extra layer of comfort. And throughout the process, the homeowner felt supported, informed, and heard.
At Porter Family Exteriors, it’s not just about completing a project—it’s about helping homeowners bring their vision to life. And in this case, the result was a home that not only looks better but feels better too.
