Location: Willow Grove, PA
Renovations: James Hardie Siding; Exterior Capping; Window repair
In Willow Grove, this 1950s split-level home had a rear extension completed two years earlier using MainStreet Sterling Gray siding. The homeowner wanted the rest of the house updated with James Hardie siding to match the new addition. The project also included installing new aluminum capping, soffits, gutters, and garage trim, along with replacing sections of wood sheathing as part of the work.
Why the Homeowner Chose Our Team
The homeowner selected Porter Family Exteriors for our longstanding reputation and family-focused service. As a family-owned company, we’re known for clear communication, reliability, and craftsmanship. They wanted a siding contractor who would keep promises and deliver quality—and that’s exactly what we’re known for.
Collaborating on a Seamless, Updated Design

During our consultation, we reviewed every capping and trim detail to ensure a uniform finish. Together, we decided to apply aluminum capping to all window frames—including those set in stucco, brick, and siding—for a consistent look across the home. The homeowner also chose to remove the shutters for a cleaner design and plans to have the garage’s stucco painted in the near future.
As with every Porter project, the process centered on communication and trust. By walking through each material choice and installation step, we made sure the homeowner felt confident in the plan.
Our Proven Siding Installation Process
Our crew installed James Hardie Lap Smooth siding in Light Mist to complement the newer rear addition. We removed the old battens and installed over the existing boards, finishing with Arctic White trim for a crisp, modern contrast.
Additional updates included:
- Aluminum capping on all windows for a consistent appearance.
- Hardie trim in Arctic White on windows, sliding door, back entry door, and garage door.
- New soffit and fascia capping, plus 5K gutters and 2×3 downspouts, all in white.
- Removal of deck boards to flash the ledger, then reinstalling with Fiberon Sanctuary Latte plugs.
- Removal of old security cameras and siding-area shutters.
Each element was chosen to create a durable, cohesive exterior built for longevity. As James Hardie Elite Alliance Contractors, our team installed every element according to manufacturer guidelines, ensuring the homeowner could rest assured that the manufacturer’s warranty was maintained.
Adapting to Weather and Hidden Repairs with Care
We adjusted scheduling to accommodate driveway deliveries and paused briefly for inclement weather. During work on the front triple window, we uncovered rot beneath the old metal capping. Our team installed temporary protection and returned promptly to complete permanent repairs, ensuring the home stayed watertight..
A Durable Siding Replacement the Homeowner Loves
The project finished smoothly and on schedule. The homeowner praised our professionalism, attention to detail, and the updated look. Their home now features a modern exterior that’s low-maintenance, weather-resistant, and built for decades of reliable performance.
